Welcome to Southern Bluebird Day! I'm so happy you've found my little blog. Here  you'll find crafty DIY projects and tutorials, follow along as we update and decorate our boring builder's grade home, and little snippets of our life in small-town Alabama.

My husband and I are college sweethearts, and we are parents to two sweet and wild little girls. I am an ex-school teacher turned self-employed hairstylist. I love the freedom that comes with working behind the chair. Being my own boss is one of the best decisions I ever made, even if my fingernails are always stained with haircolor!

My house is not perfect, but neither am I. Most of the [many] pictures on our walls hang crooked, and there are always crumbs in my couch and fingerprints on the TV screen. I have learned over the years since we moved in that a perfect house is an impossible goal. Styles and trends will change, budgets will shrink, and there will always be some project to focus on.

But really? Perfect is boring. I want my kids to jump on the couch and I want to eat cereal in bed and not be afraid of ruining things. I want to look at a room and see progress and potential instead of perfect. Just like my imperfect house, an imperfect life is messy and unfinished and gloriously ripe with possibilities.

I hope you'll follow along with me as I share our attempts at crafting an imperfect life.

P.S. Typically, a "bluebird day" is a skiing term, when the skies are crisp blue and cloudless, and fresh powder is on the slopes. I've lived in the heat of Alabama all my life, and have never been close to snow-covered mountain. But my dad, who passed away when I was a teenager, used that term to describe those perfect days, and I can't think of anything more lovely.

  1. I just found your blog and I'm so glad to find someone else from Alabama! Do you mind my asking what area you're in?

  2. Hi Meredith! I know what you mean! We live in Lincoln, very close to the Talladega Super Speedway!

  3. Callie,
Shannon Jenne said she has your "Musical Ride" and "Man from Milwaukee" t-shirts. Which ones are those? Can you show me?
